Get paid working as an intern at CBS Interactive

Currently there is a shortage of digital media professionals. As a person studying digital media what are your thoughts on the industry as a whole?

'As a person studying digial media what are your thoughts on the industry as a whole'. Sounds like a question for a 10,000 word essay! Here's the top 10 picks:

1. Starting to get a handle on the nuances of 'Convergence' as a term depending on who you talk to ie Gidgets and Gadgets vs Content Mash Ups vs Delivery of Text, Audio and Vision.

2. Australia seems to be dragging it's feet in setting up the infrastructure for engagement & participation by the whole of the population. There's a lot of talk about broadband availability...I was out the west of nsw over the weekend and in plenty of good size towns I couldn't get a cell phone.

3. There is very little engagement by the senior executives and boards in trying to really harness the opportunities from what I see at the AICD - and to that matter the Australian Marketing Institute standard communication offering.

4. I like some of the visual browsers which are available like searchme and I think there will be more visual applications going to get a lot more traction because there is just so much reading you can do...

5. I'd like more packaging of interfaces and compatibility - the igoogle desktop is getting there but it's not perfect in wanting to get the workspace organised.

6. I think the interactive media lobby/associations could probably do some 'old media' outreach communications work to bring more people online to more than googling and emails.

7. Some of the work that ICE is doing with it's Digitales program in Western Sydney is interesting.

8. Social Networking online & twitter (personal and corporate models) stuff? Will it stay around in volume or is it a re-take on the pager system with pixs?

9. I'm interested in the development of cross-over links like when your're watching tv and you can press to get more detailed info about the actor, racer, car, country that your're watching... or the skype 'always on' availability of seeing who is online for a chat or follow up when you are working.

10. I think the legislation of broadcasting licenses, rights, access etc and the business models of 'who pays' is great and to see which brands can drive an agenda against the clout of the Googlebots.

Thats about it at present.

IT Intern

It has been over 3 years now (June 05) since I joined as an intern working in the CBS Interactive tech team. I was still a university student at that stage, in my 4th year studying Computer Systems Engineering at UTS. The role enabled me to gain valuable insight into the corporate-nature of technology - its applications and challenges for the company, and how I, as an engineer fit in to the equation.

My work at the time involved system administration tasks for the servers and systems in place i… Continue

Working at CBS

Working for CBS Interactive has been great fun! I joined in March 2007 as a Junior Video Editor after finishing my Diploma in Digital Media.

Since then I have had the privilege on going on fun and exciting location shoots, editing creative and educational videos, traveling around Australia and meeting up with Celebrities.

Recently I got promoted as a Video Producer and now have a great team under me that I help manage and drive as the Video Team. I wouldn’t trade my job with anything else!

CBS Interactive

I first started working for CBS Interactive back in June 07 as an intern for GameSpot. When I grew up I loved playing computer games so naturally when I heard the opportunity to work for a gaming website I jumped at it. I was developing my writing skills by reviewing games as well as updating and publishing stories on CNET.

At the end of my internship an opportunity came up to work as an assistant in the ad operations department full time. Having no clue what ad operations did or that they even… Continue
